Focus: Wisdom in all areas of our lives from the Book of Proverbs
Wisdom = knowledge + obedience
The word wisdom/wise is used 125 x
Wisdom keeps us in harmony with God.
Many christians are living without applying God’s wisdom.
The proverbs will help you with wealth, friends, building a home, avoiding temptation, controlling your feelings and your tongue.
It will give you Godly character.
Solomon was given wisdom but did not always apply it to his life.
1 Kings 3:12 I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have!
THE PROBLEM:
He did not trust God’s protection. He put his trust in himself .
God told the King not to gather horses...Solomon's response:
Deuteronomy 17:16 “The king must not build up a large stable of horses for himself or send his people to Egypt to buy horses, for the Lord has told you, ‘You must never return to Egypt.’
1 Kings 4:26 Solomon had 4,000 stalls for his chariot horses, and he had 12,000 horses.
He did not trust the promise of the Lord
1 Chronicles 22:9 But you will have a son who will be a man of peace. I will give him peace with his enemies in all the surrounding lands. His name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.
1 Kings 9:17 So Solomon rebuilt the city of Gezer. He also built up the towns of Lower Beth-horon.
Instead he fortified cities and his defense post - although he was at peace.
He did not trust the provision of the Lord
Deuteronomy 17:17 The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from the Lord. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.
1 Kings 11:3 He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.
To stay friends with other countries, he began marrying their women.
Parents, our children need wisdom!
Proverbs 1:8 My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
Do you notice it was both parents providing wisdom?
Children, do not abandon what your parents have taught you...
